Lake Nakuru National Park is compact, fully fenced and extraordinarily productive. It is one of the surest places in Kenya to see rhino — both black and white — often within the first hour of a game drive.
The park also holds Rothschild's giraffe, translocated here to protect the subspecies, and a population of lion that regularly climb the acacia.
Flamingo numbers rise and fall with the lake's water level and alkalinity. When conditions are right, the shoreline turns pink for kilometres.
