Uganda Adventure
Our flagship cross-border group trip, now in its tenth edition — the source of the Nile at Jinja, Busowoko Falls, the Buganda Kingdom and a New Year crossing, by road from Nairobi.
This is the trip that made our group adventures what they are, and it is now on its tenth edition. Twenty to thirty travellers, a comfy tour van across the border, and four days built around the Nile at Jinja.
You take a boat to the source of the Nile where it leaves Lake Victoria, visit Busowoko Falls, tour the Buganda Kingdom and the Kampala royal sites, with music and entertainment on board the whole way.
It is deliberately social. Most people arrive alone and leave with a group chat that stays active for years — which is exactly why the Vuka Mwaka edition over New Year sells out first.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1
Nairobi to Uganda
Depart Nairobi by comfy tour van with music and entertainment on board. We cross at Busia — passport and yellow fever certificate required — and continue to the hotel for check-in and dinner.

Day 2
Jinja and the source of the Nile
A full day in Jinja: a boat excursion to the point where the Nile leaves Lake Victoria, then the Busowoko Falls excursion. Optional grade-five rafting or the 44-metre bungee for anyone who wants them. Evening back at the hotel.

Day 3
Kampala and the Buganda Kingdom
The Kampala Kingdom royal tour and the Buganda Kingdom sites — the Kasubi Tombs, the Lubiri palace and the Gaddafi Mosque viewpoint over the city. Professional photography throughout, and a New Year celebration on the Vuka Mwaka departure.

Return to Nairobi
A relaxed morning, then we cross back at Busia and continue to Nairobi, arriving in the evening.

Accommodation
Three nights' hotel accommodation on a half-board basis — shared twin rooms as standard, hot showers, restaurant and bar. Private room upgrades on request.

Frequently asked questions
A Kenyan passport or temporary passport, plus a yellow fever vaccination certificate — both are checked at Busia and neither is included in the price. Kenyan, Ugandan, Rwandan and South Sudanese citizens do not need a visa; others should arrange an East African tourist visa in advance.
No. Rafting and bungee are optional extras booked and paid on the day. Plenty of the group choose the calm-water boat cruise instead.
Most people do. Rooms are shared with a traveller of the same gender unless you pay the single supplement, and the group facilitator makes sure nobody is left on the edge of it.
It is long — around twelve hours each way in a comfy tour van with reclining seats, rest stops, and music and entertainment on board. It is a large part of why the trip costs KSh 25,000 rather than several times that.
It is our New Year departure, 30 December to 2 January, and the tenth edition of this trip. You cross into the new year in Uganda with the group. It is the fastest-selling departure we run, so book early.
