The Mara is the northern tip of the Serengeti ecosystem, and it earns every superlative written about it. Rolling savannah broken by lone balanites trees, riverine forest along the Mara and Talek rivers, and the highest density of big cats anywhere in Africa.
Between July and October the Great Migration pours across the Mara River — more than a million wildebeest and zebra, tracked by crocodile below and lion above. Outside those months the Mara is quieter, greener and far better value, with resident predators on show all year.
We run the Mara as a three-day, two-night circuit with early-morning and late-afternoon game drives, when the light is best and the cats are moving. Nights are spent in tented camps just outside the reserve gates.
